March 21: Stage one
Hi everyone and welcome to my Volta a Catalunya blog. Each day I will keep you updated and talk about what it's like to be in the middle of a big stage race like this one.
Today was the first stage and it wasn't too eventful. I had aeroplane legs at the beginning but eased my way into the day. The downhills in the rain were quite interesting when we were near the front, but apart from that it was quite straightforward.
It finished in a bunch sprint and it's a shame Swifty didn't get the stage win, but (Nacer) Bouhanni is a really fast guy so there's no shame to lose to him. With the team we were riding strongly and we were there in all the moments that we needed to be there.
In terms of my form, I feel really good so I'm looking forward to the mountain stages and to see what we can do with Chris, with G and also myself.
It's really nice on a day like today where the race starts and finishes in the same place - when you can have things like the kitchen truck right there and finish 500 metres from the hotel. The rest of the week is also not too bad with transfers, which is also nice to have on a stage race. You have a little bit more time to relax - and make a blog for the fans!
